NEW! Scan 4.4 Just released!

Compumedics/Neuroscan is pleased to announce the release of the latest version of the Scan software package for EEG acquisition and analysis. Scan 4.4 was developed largely for users with MagLink RT systems, and it contains the latest methods for removing gradient sequencing and ballistocardiogram artifact.

Additional changes in Scan 4.4 include several new transforms, as well as modifications to existing ones. Some of the new transforms have been created from parts of the existing EKG Noise Reduction transform. This gives greater control over how they may be used, and permit more general applications aside from ballistocardiogram removal. The Scan 4.4 Release Notes, included with the 4.4 installation, describe all of the changes since 4.3.1.

  • Correlate Peaks (new; part of EKG Noise Reduction transform)
  • DC Drift Correction (modification)
  • Export in EDF Format (modification)
  • Grid Layout (new)
  • Import Event File (new)
  • Insert Multiple Events (new)
  • QRS Detection (new; part of EKG Noise Reduction transform)
  • Subtract Average (new; part of EKG Noise Reduction transform)

Included with the Scan 4.4 release is a complete set of updated user manuals. PDF versions are included with the installation; printed sets may be purchased. Also included are a set of example paradigms for recording a variety of cognitive and sensory EPs. Sample setup files and auditory/visual stimuli for use with Stim2 are included.

Scan 4.4 is a "patch" that is installed on top of your existing Scan 4.3.1 or newer version (you must have at least 4.3.1). Your 4.3.1 license will run the regular version of Scan 4.4. The MagLink RT version of Scan 4.4 requires a Full ESI 4.3 license as well as a MagLink RT license.

New users will receive Scan 4.4 on a separate CD along with all of the other materials. Existing users may download Scan 4.4 from ftp://ftp.neuroscan.com (go to the Public, Released Software, Scan 4.4 folder and read the READ ME FIRST.doc file).

Features in SCAN 4.3

Major new features and changes:

* Runs under Windows 2000 and XP Operating Systems. (XP Professional Preferred)

* A new look and feel to the User Interface

* In ACQUIRE and EDIT, there is now a History field that displays recently executed commands

* SCAN version 4.3 now supports 32-bit acquisition for data files

* EEG Viewer Software allows you to view continuous data files recorded with SCAN LT or SCAN software

Some other new features include:

* Display CNT data with a derived Common Reference

* The Network version of ACQUIRE is set up within the ACQUIRE program

* Load Snapshot - Allows you to load a BMP file and then superimpose a 2D map on top of the image.

* There are now Tool Tips that will show the electrode label in CNT files (in ACQUIRE and EDIT).

* There is a new option to set the number of seconds that are displayed in each screen for CNT files

* SCAN 4.3 no longer supports the older Metrabyte and LabMaster AD acquisition systems; ACQUIRE will only run with SynAmps, SynAmps2, and NuAmps

* An Option to export CNT files (in Edit) to the European Data Format has been added

* The RespWin program has now been incorporated into the SCAN 4.3 software.

* Clear Specific Events - allows you to remove selected stimulus and/or response type codes from within a marked block

* Color Scale Type - The mapping options now include a "Custom" feature that lets you select the colors for the background, text, and individual scale colors. data windows)

* Signal-to-noise ratios can now be computed for AVG and EEG data file types.

* ASCII Export Options - There are several new options for ASCII export.

* Update Changes icon - The Update Changes icon on the Toolbar can be used in cases where you have modified a data file, and wish to save it using the same file name.

* SCD Transform - The Source Current Density transform has been discontinued in 4.3 in favor of the Source program.

* Click and Drag options with CNT files. Click the right mouse button and drag over a section of a CNT file. On releasing the button, you will see a new list of options. Most of these are self-explanatory, and include the Annotation, block, and utility options listed.

* MATLAB. It is now possible to export/import data files to/from MATLAB directly from EDIT.

* The TCL Batch capability in SCAN 4.2 was one of the more anticipated components of that release. In SCAN 4.3, there have been several more BATCH developments. The most significant is the "Auto-write" feature. When you now run a transform in point-and-click (P&C) mode, the routine is actually executed in BATCH. In the process, the required BATCH command is written automatically, and is seen on the Immediate line.

MapGen - The MapGen program is used to create or modify 2D maps files. In prior versions, it was run from the Program Launcher. In SCAN 4.3, it is launched from the Toolbar in ACQUIRE or EDIT. Its function remains the same.

3DSpaceDx - There have been some significant reductions in the functions involving 3DSpaceDx. All mapping functions exist solely the EDIT program. The 3DSpaceDx program is now used exclusively for digitizing the landmarks, electrode positions and head shape data.

Configuration:

The SCAN Acquisition software serves as the interface to the SynAmps and NuAmps. SCAN Acquisition provides a multitude of recording options which are saved in unique files that can be recalled for each experiment, ensuring that each individual data set is acquired with the same parameters. Even with the numerous options for acquiring the data the software is straightforward and simple to use. The SCAN Analysis software is a comprehensive tool for processing and analyzing EEG and ERP data. With decades of combined experience and active research collaborations with major research labs world wide, our research and development team has strived to implement every major data processing and analytical tool that is typically used as a transform into the SCAN software. The latest advancements included a programming-based batch processing language, a PCA/ICA filter toolbox and EKG and Blink reduction tools. As new developments occur in the field of neuroscience, Neuroscan will continue to develop its solutions for your research.
